Work begins on the future 'Mersad Berber' Museum

Work has begun on the renovation of a space in the very center of the city, which will house a museum dedicated to one of the most significant Bosnian visual artists, Mersad Berber. The work will be carried out in phases according to the conceptual design of renowned Bosnian architect Zlatko Ugljen. The City of Sarajevo and the Stari Grad Municipality, led by Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, have secured funds for the first phase, which will include part of the construction, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical works.

It will be a representative facility, on two floors and over 450 square meters, located at 14 Zelenih beretki Street, designed after museums in Vienna, Barcelona, and other European metropolises, featuring a rich and vast opus of Berber's works.

“The City of Sarajevo will receive another cultural institution, which will preserve the works of our visual arts giant Mersad Berber. We are bringing him back to his Sarajevo, where, as he used to say, he spent the best years of his life together with his wife Ada,” stated Sarajevo Mayor Abdullah Skaka, adding that the extremely rich fund of the future museum will enrich the tourist offer and promote Sarajevo in Europe and the world as a place of exceptional cultural and artistic creation.

The City of Sarajevo and the Stari Grad Municipality, in partnership with the “Mersad Berber” Foundation, launched this project after a very successfully held retrospective exhibition of this artist at the City Hall.

"The start of construction work on the future "Mersad Berber" Museum in Sarajevo brings great joy and pride to my entire family. On this occasion, I would like to once again emphasize the great support for this project from its very inception to today's start of implementation, which we received from state and city institutions, then Mayor Mr. Skaka and Stari Grad Municipality Head Mr. Hadžibajrić. We are also grateful to our celebrated Prof. Zlatko Ugljen, who is the author of the architectural solution, which he provided free of charge to the Mersad Berber Foundation. I hope for the earliest possible realization of the Museum so that in our beautiful Sarajevo, the collection from the legacy of my late father can find its permanent home and be accessible to everyone,” Ensar Berber said on this occasion.
