Minimum Wage and Fiscalization Laws Postponed Indefinitely

(Patria) - The adoption of the Law on increasing the minimum wage from the previous year has been postponed to this one. Consequently, the Law on Fiscalization is also on hold. Forecasts are not optimistic, as it is evident that even 2024 will not be enough for the adoption of key solutions.

Although the Independent Trade Unions Association, led by Selvedin Šatorović, clearly stated at the beginning of last year that they would not give up until the Law on Minimum Wage was adopted at the federal level, the promises remained unfulfilled by the end of the year. Šatorović claims that they have not given up, but merely postponed. Until when, he could not say.

"The government has implemented a different modality, in terms of a currently more favorable solution for employers. Consequently, for employees, in terms of increasing the minimum wage, where each employer is allowed to raise wages by 420 KM without any obligations," states Selvedin Šatorović, president of the Independent Trade Unions Association.

This solution, as a consolation prize for citizens if employers wish, will be applied from January and will last for the next six months. Economists state that the solution is not bad, but that no one in this country can rely on the free will of employers. Previous experiences have shown this. However, with this solution, the Law on a minimum wage of one thousand marks could be set aside. And consequently, the Law on Fiscalization, closely related to the previous one.

"That there will be no fiscal reforms in 2024, or rather that all of this is being transferred to 2025, potentially even 2026, if it is planned for the Tax Administration to adapt its systems for about 6 to 12 months," believes Admir Čavalić, a member of the House of Representatives of the FBiH.
