(Patria) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac was informed by key institutions making up the power sector in BiH that there are no problems in the functioning of the power system in BiH in the new circumstances.
Taking into account the current epidemiological situation caused by the spread of the coronavirus, Minister Košarac requested urgent information last week from key institutions and companies that make up the power sector in BiH regarding the functioning of power capacities in BiH, current electricity supply, and necessary fuels such as oil and gas.
''We must respond preparedly to potential market changes and disruptions. Due to the coronavirus epidemic, domestic institutions and companies are operating with a minimal or significantly reduced number of employees, consumption of electricity has drastically decreased in the EU, and so on. Taking all these aspects into account, I requested information on the functioning of power capacities in BiH. It is necessary to react in a timely manner so as not to reach a situation where the normal operation or functioning of any company is jeopardized and the functioning of the power system in BiH becomes unstable. We must not allow the supply to end customers, i.e., citizens and the economy, to be endangered,'' stated Minister Košarac.
He pointed out that he received information from DERK, NOS, Elektroprenos BiH, the Ministry of Energy and Mining of Republika Srpska, the Federal Ministry of Energy and Mining, and the three power utility companies in both entities and the public utility company of Brčko District that the stability of the power system is guaranteed.
''I am informed that the functioning of the power system is stable, and that there are no problems regarding operation, maintenance, and supply of customers with electricity, nor are there any significant supply disruptions. Regarding electricity consumption in BiH, I was informed that there were no significant deviations,'' said Minister Košarac.
He emphasized that in the current epidemiological situation, the continuous and orderly supply of electricity to citizens and the economy is of key importance, and he expects maximum dedication to this task from all power sector entities.
''Likewise, I would appeal for adherence to all recommendations of the competent institutions, i.e., the implementation of special protection and prevention measures, because the protection of our employees and citizens is our top priority in these circumstances,'' stated Minister Košarac.
