More than 11,000 immigrants have landed in Italy in the last six days, and hundreds more continued to arrive on Friday on the Italian coast, the Italian coast guard announced, reports the Patria news agency.
More than 300 immigrants, including 45 women and 23 minors, who set off from the Libyan coast, were picked up at sea on Friday by the Italian coast guard and navy, and landed in Pozzallo, Sicily.
One woman died in a gas cylinder explosion on a vessel she boarded with almost 90 other immigrants, of whom about fifteen were injured. The rescued persons were taken to the Italian island of Lampedusa, Hina reports.
