SARAJEVO, (Patria) – On Friday, April 17, the Employment Service of KS had 61,051 unemployed persons registered as of April 16. On Thursday alone, 322 people registered with the bureaus.
On March 18, there were 58,029 people registered with the service, which is an increase of 3,022 people in less than a month.
According to the Service, all unemployed persons will have health insurance, while the right to financial compensation will depend on whether they have eight months of continuous employment, which allows for compensation of three months at 377 KM, and whether the employer has settled all obligations.
For now, no single employer stands out with a large number of layoffs; rather, it is a large number of them with two to three employees each whose employment contracts have been terminated.
The consequences on the economy caused by the coronavirus and all the bans that are still in effect are most evident in the large number of laid-off workers. In FBiH, 21,360 people lost their jobs during this period, and an increase in that number is expected by the end of April.
Many employers are waiting for measures and relief planned by the Law on Mitigating Economic Consequences, which should be adopted by the Federal Parliament next week, as well as for cantonal actions. Some workers are still employed during this period, but their salaries have been reduced to the minimum wage, and they are waiting for the employers' next move.
