In one month, number of pensioners in FBiH increased by 2,089; 355.4 million KM needed for pension payments

(Patria) - In accordance with the Law on PIO, pensions for the month of April will be paid via the Single Treasury Account of the Federation of BiH on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

A total of 466,768 beneficiaries will receive their April pension, with the required funds for payment amounting to around 355.4 million KM. Compared to last month, the number of beneficiaries increased by 2,079. Last month, 351.8 million KM was needed for payment, while now it is 4.6 million KM more.

At the end of March, there were 541,829 employed persons in FBiH, and the difference between the number of employed and pensioners is only 75,061 in favor of the employed. The pension budget is funded from contributions on workers' salaries, although this amount has long been insufficient, so the FBiH Government adds part of the missing funds for payment.

For beneficiaries who acquired the right until January 1, 2026, the lowest pension amounts to 666.76 KM, the guaranteed pension is 795.74 KM, while the highest pension amounts to 3,333.79 KM.

The basis for calculating the lowest pension under Article 81, paragraph 2 of the Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on PIO (Official Gazette of the Federation of BiH, number: 6/26), for beneficiaries who acquire the right after January 1, 2026, amounts to 724.36 KM (651.05 + 11.26% = 724.36).

Based on the above:

–           The lowest pension under Article 81, paragraph 2, point a) – for less than 20 years of pensionable service – 60% of the basis, amounts to 434.62 KM,

–           The lowest pension under Article 81, paragraph 2, point b) – for 20 years of pensionable service or more, but less than 25 years – 65% of the basis, amounts to 470.83 KM,

–           The lowest pension under Article 81, paragraph 2, point c) – for 25 years of pensionable service or more, but less than 30 years – 70% of the basis, amounts to 507.05 KM,

–           The lowest pension under Article 81, paragraph 2, point d) – for 30 years of pensionable service or more, but less than 35 years – 75% of the basis, amounts to 543.27 KM,

–           The lowest pension under Article 81, paragraph 2, point e) – for 35 years of pensionable service or more, but less than 40 years – 85% of the basis, amounts to 615.71 KM,

–           The lowest pension under Article 81, paragraph 2, point f) – for 40 years of pensionable service or more – 95% of the basis, amounts to 688.14 KM.

Disability and survivor's pension (after an active insured person) within the meaning of Article 81, paragraph 4 of the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance as of January 1, 2026, amounts to:

–           The lowest disability pension amounts to 651.92 KM,

–           The lowest survivor's pension amounts to 651.92 KM.

The amount of the guaranteed pension for beneficiaries who acquire the right after January 1, 2026, based on 40 or more years of insurance service, is set at 842.44 KM.

The lowest pension for beneficiaries who acquire the right under special regulations (Law on Early Preferential Retirement of Veterans of the Defense-Liberation War, Law on Special Rights of Recipients of War Awards and Decorations and Members of Their Families, and Law on Rights of Veterans and Members of Their Families), amendments to the aforementioned regulations applied from January 1, 2026, is set at 666.76 KM.

The average independent pension for April amounts to 851.03 KM.
