LONDON, (Patria) - Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Edin Forto yesterday signed a mandate letter at the headquarters of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London for the implementation of the project “Energy Efficiency in Public Facilities of Sarajevo Canton”.
The signing was organized within the event "EBRD Green Cities: Building for a Sustainable Future in Cities" where Prime Minister Forto participated as a panelist on the topic of challenges
of financing city projects in times of major climate change.
The project “Energy Efficiency in Public Facilities of Sarajevo Canton” means additional investments of 20 million marks in 40 public facilities in Sarajevo Canton, most of which are educational
institutions, i.e. schools, kindergartens, faculty buildings and health institutions. The benefit of investing in energy efficiency is not exclusively measurable in money. This is an investment in health, sustainability and the future,” said Prime Minister Forto.
The implementation of the project “Energy Efficiency in Public Facilities of Sarajevo Canton” is planned for 2020.
The expected effects of the investment are improved working conditions and general comfort in renovated public facilities and reduced energy consumption. By replacing energy sources, a reduction in CO2 emissions is achieved, as well as a reduction in energy consumption of up to 50 percent per facility, which has direct impacts on savings in the cantonal budget.
