Xavi to leave Barcelona bench

(Patria) - Barcelona was defeated by Villarreal last night at home with a score of 3:5 in the 21st round of the Spanish championship.

The Catalan coach Xavi Hernandez (44) said after the match that he is leaving the club at the end of the season.

Xavi took over Barcelona in November 2021, and his contract runs until the end of June 2025.

However, he will not see it through to the end after it was confirmed against Villarreal that Barcelona is having a bad season.

"On June 30, I will leave the club. This is a decision we have discussed with the president, with the staff... Barça needs a change of direction," Xavi said after another defeat.

The current Spanish champions are currently third in La Liga, ten points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Xavi has managed Barcelona in 122 matches so far. He has recorded 76 wins, 20 draws, and 26 losses.

With Barcelona, he won the Spanish championship and the domestic Super Cup in 2023.
