Washington asks UN Security Council to support Biden's proposed peace deal for Gaza

(Patria) - The United States has called on the UN Security Council to support a three-phase plan announced by President Joe Biden aimed at ending the nearly eight-month war in Gaza, freeing all hostages, and sending massive aid to the devastated territory.

The American ambassador to the World Organization, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that the United States has circulated a draft resolution to the other 14 Council members to support the proposal to end the conflict that began with a surprise Hamas attack in southern Israel on October 7, in which about 1,200 people were killed, mostly Israeli civilians.

- Numerous leaders and governments, including regional ones, have supported this plan and we call on the Security Council to join them in calling for the implementation of this agreement without delay and without further conditions - she stated in a statement.

The short draft resolution, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press, would welcome the May 31 agreement announced by Biden and calls on Hamas to “fully accept and implement its terms without delay and without conditions.” Hamas said it is reviewing the proposal.
