(Patria) - China is ready to continue cooperation with Russia in the United Nations Security Council and make efforts to de-escalate the situation in the Middle East, said Foreign Minister Wang Yi to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in a phone call, state agency Xinhua reported on Sunday.
Wang said that the fundamental way to resolve the issue of navigating the Strait of Hormuz is to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible, adding that China has always advocated for the political resolution of hotspot issues through dialogue and negotiation, Reuters reports.
The foreign ministers' call comes ahead of next week's UN Security Council vote on Bahrain's resolution on protecting commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
