Vučić on NIS sanctions: We will talk to the Russians, the Americans have had their say

(Patria) - President Aleksandar Vučić stated that due to the announced US sanctions against NIS, there will be no rest in the coming period and there will be many hardships, probably difficult decisions, but that efforts will be made to protect the country, emphasizing that he will talk to the Russians about everything, while there is nothing more to discuss with the Americans. They have had their say.

"On the other hand, I hope the company will not lay off a large number of workers. In any case, we will talk to the Russians about everything, we have nothing more to discuss with the Americans now. They have had their say. The Europeans will support the American sanctions. I am quite sure that after a short time JANAF will stop supplying oil. So, we have that physical problem," said Vučić, answering journalists' questions during a tour of the eUprava House and "Ložionica".

He stated that there is another, perhaps even bigger problem, and that is the financial-banking problem, because, as he said, there is no bank in the world that will not want to avoid American sanctions.

"Great, we have one state-owned and one private Serbian bank that can last a day, two, three, or five days longer, but they also will not want to go bankrupt or disappear because of sanctions, so we will have countless problems. This means – you cannot pay workers, you cannot pay for anything, you cannot pay for refinery parts and many other things. It breeds countless problems. We will have to see how to solve it," he pointed out.

However, he assessed that Serbia, although neither guilty nor to blame, will bear the brunt of it.
