We Love Mountains but Not the Culture: Veliko Polje on Igman Full of Trash, Food Remains, and Barbecue Fire Sites

(Patria) - The Olympic mountain Igman, known as an air spa, always has visitors. Not only in the winter period when citizens flee from smog and pollution, but also in the summer period when the air in Sarajevo is also full of allergens and traffic pollution. Sports teams, families with children, and pensioners are frequent guests, as well as numerous tourists, especially from Middle Eastern countries.

However, although we like to boast about spending time in nature, it seems we do not know how or do not want to preserve it.

This week, visitors to Igman were shocked by the amount of trash at Veliko Polje. Bins full of garbage scattered across the grass, food remains, and fire and barbecue sites are the sight that greets you upon arriving at this picnic area.

A surroundings full of trash is not something that will bring you back to Igman. Another problem is cars parked on the green area. Although there is a sign indicating that parking is prohibited, visitors do not respect it and regularly park on the grass.

The good news is that the playground equipment in the children's park is preserved and functional, as well as the wooden rest cabins, although they are largely scribbled on.
