Rule of Law in BiH in the Dodik Case: The Emperor is Naked or Potemkin Villages

(Patria) - More than 40 days since the final verdict of the BiH Court in the Dodik case and the consequent decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of BiH to revoke his mandate, state institutions or judicial institutions have not taken a single concrete step towards implementing the rule of law, announced the Center for Security Studies (CSS).

CSS points out that it is completely incomprehensible that the basic prerogatives of state functioning and citizens' trust in its institutions are not problematized in public discourse on a daily basis, but rather the media focus is intentionally or unprofessionally directed towards less important events compared to the aforementioned political-security problem.

"We believe that even in the current literature for young generations, fairy tales such as Andersen's 'The Emperor's New Clothes' are included, where those present did not dare to face the truth and what they saw with their own eyes for fear of appearing foolish.

The expression Potemkin villages, associated with the supreme commander of the Russian army who falsely presented a flash and semblance of success to Queen Catherine II by improvising reality to hide the actual situation, is similar.

We can draw a similar parallel with the period after Dodik's final verdict was delivered. No one responsible in the government or judiciary is seeking answers about what concrete steps are being taken to implement the verdict, the disregard of which could imply security risks.

We are already witnessing the political aspect. An impression is being created in public that the government is functioning smoothly in every part of BiH's territory, but doesn't all this resemble the historical imaginations presented?", CSS states.

They remind that the rule of law is the basis for the functioning of the European Union and guarantees the uniform application of law in all member states, while at the same time guaranteeing a predictable environment for all citizens.

"In the case of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the rule of law is one of the fundamental conditions for membership in the European Union, which we declaratively strive for, both at the level of political representatives and among citizens who show almost 70% support for membership according to the latest research by the Directorate for European Integration", the CSS statement adds.
