Government of Zenica-Doboj Canton Allocates Funds to Eliminate Waiting Lists for Deficit Health Services

(Patria) - The Assembly of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, by majority vote, approved amendments to the Financial Plan of the Health Insurance Fund of the Zenica-Doboj Canton for 2026, which secure funds in the amount of 700,000 KM for reducing waiting lists for deficit health services in the Zenica-Doboj Canton.

The list of deficit health services recognized as priorities includes ultrasound examination of the heart (echocardiography), color Doppler of blood vessels, ultrasound examination of the neck and periphery, ultrasound examination of the breasts with axillae, CT native LSCT, and CT with contrast.



- Today we discussed what will be achieved with these funds and whether the waiting lists can be eliminated. We believe they will be, because these are additional funds that will be directed to private healthcare institutions through a public call, enabling them to provide deficit health services.

I must remind you that the Cantonal Hospital Zenica has already significantly reduced waiting lists through multi-shift work, and after the implementation of this public call, we will not allow waiting lists to exist at all - said the Prime Minister of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, Nezir Pivić.

He emphasizes that the Cantonal Hospital's estimate is that 500,000 KM is needed to eliminate waiting lists for deficit health services, but that the Government has allocated an additional 200,000 KM to avoid a situation where funds are insufficient.

Pivić reminds that the Government previously approved eight million KM for the digitalization of healthcare in this canton, and these funds are secured from the budget of the Zenica-Doboj Canton.



- This is a significant step, and it is equally important to eliminate the payment for PET-CT diagnostic services, which patients had to pay for until now and then seek reimbursement.

We will strive to follow trends in healthcare services and allocate the necessary funds, while at the same time continuing to work on the generational project of the new Cantonal Hospital, for which the conceptual design is currently being prepared.

In parallel, work is also being done on the construction of a boiler room and energy efficiency measures for the Internal Medicine building, for which approximately 20 million KM has been secured - Pivić added.
