The Government of Republika Srpska adopted a decision on November 19, at its 11th session, issuing a guarantee for the temporary stay of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to data published in the Official Gazette of the RS, the guarantee is linked to the commemoration of the forty-day memorial service for his deceased sister Milica Avram.
Milica Avram passed away on October 26 this year, while the period to which the guarantee refers is planned for the beginning of December. The decision was signed by RS Prime Minister Savo Minić, and the document was published on November 19, coming into effect a day later.
Despite the issued guarantee, Mladić cannot leave the detention unit in The Hague without court approval.
Previous requests for his temporary release on health grounds had already been rejected.
This move by the RS Government has sparked strong reactions in the public, especially given the fact that Mladić has been finally convicted of genocide in Srebrenica and other war crimes.
