Government of Sarajevo Canton: Property Register of the Canton available to the public for the first time

(Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton, at the proposal of the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection, adopted a decision making the Unified Property Register of Sarajevo Canton a public document available on the website of the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Sarajevo Canton under the name “Property of Sarajevo Canton”.

The Canton's property register is kept by the Administration for Geodetic and Property-Legal Affairs within the relevant ministry and includes records of cantonal office buildings, commercial and residential premises, land, unused real estate, records of Canton's real estate outside the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as property that is given or taken under lease.

The Minister of Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection in the Government of Sarajevo Canton, Damir Filipović, emphasizes the particular importance of publicly presenting this document, which is one in a series of documents that this Government and Ministry are making available to the public.

“The issue of the property register of Sarajevo Canton is an open process aimed at showing in one place what Sarajevo Canton possesses, how ‘wealthy’ it is, and how large its property is. By publishing this register on our website, all interested parties will gain insight into this data, and we hope that in this way we will succeed in accelerating processes that have not been completed on this matter,” emphasized Minister Filipović.

As pointed out by the Administration for Geodetic and Property-Legal Affairs, the biggest problem in recording this property is the failure to act upon the Administration's request for submission of documentation presenting possession, ownership, or disposal of property by budget beneficiaries. Examples include certain public utility companies and other administrative bodies that have never responded to the request for registration.

The register is updated every two years using forms that include the Decision on the establishment of a legal entity (as identification of the legal entity – budget beneficiary), a land registry extract, a copy of the cadastral plan, and other decisions as proof of ownership, possession, or disposal of real estate. The publication of this document is expected within ten days after the adoption of the Conclusion by the Government of Sarajevo Canton and its submission to the competent Administration.
