CITY HALL Day of Independence of BiH Marked with Joint Ceremonial Academy of Sarajevo Canton, City of Sarajevo and Municipalities in KS

(Patria) - A joint Ceremonial Academy of Sarajevo Canton, the City of Sarajevo and
municipalities of Sarajevo Canton on the occasion of March 1st - Independence Day of Bosnia and
Herzegovina, was held today at the City Hall in the presence of representatives of political,
public, cultural life and the diplomatic corps in BiH.

On behalf of the City of Sarajevo, Mayor Samir Avdić with deputies Mirela Džehverović and Predrag Puharić, and the President of the City Council Alen Girt and deputy presidents Svjetlana Šošić and Emir Bić, congratulated the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In his address, Avdić emphasized that thirty-four years ago, Bosnia and
Herzegovina said its clear, brave and decisive “yes”, confirming the
strong and unwavering will of the citizens to restore and confirm the independence of the country
they perceive as their only home.

“Independence and sovereignty were then chosen as the logical, patriotic and only
correct path. This confirmed Bosnia and Herzegovina as a lasting value worth preserving, defending and building,” said the Mayor, adding that today we remember these decisions not only as a crucial historical moment, but also as the foundation on which tomorrow's Independence Day is celebrated.
Speaking about the historical context, Avdić reminded that history testifies that this area has always been a space where different interests intersected, strategies of division were prepared, and attempts were made to split what citizens feel is theirs.

Unfortunately, as he stated, we are witnessing similar endeavors today.

“However, one thing is certain – this country has always had people who clearly and
decisively knew why Bosnia and Herzegovina is unique and precious,” emphasized Avdić, stressing that the state is possible and sustainable only as a whole,
multi-ethnic and open community, as it has existed for centuries.

The appropriate program for marking the independence of our homeland was enriched by the performance of the quartet from the Music High School, performers from the Pop Rock School, and a musical-stage performance by Alma Subašić and Armin Omerović.
