UN Security Council Votes to Extend EUFOR Mandate in BiH

(Patria) - The UN Security Council, in its session this evening, unanimously adopted with 15 votes the draft resolution on Bosnia and Herzegovina, proposed by France, which extends the mandate of EUFOR in BiH for 12 months.

Addressing the attendees, the representative of France reminded that the EU took over a fundamental role in the stability of BiH with EUFOR in 2004.

“It does so on behalf of the international community in accordance with the Dayton Agreement and UN Security Council resolutions. France is fully involved and that is why I say we have a leading role in ensuring security and fighting destabilization in relation to current provocations. That is why I welcome the unanimous adoption of resolution 2757 which renews and extends the mandate of EUFOR for an additional 12 months. France also supports the mandate of the High Representative,” he emphasized, N1 reports.

He also expressed solidarity with BiH after the floods, and welcomed the results of the local elections, which the OSCE/ODIHR mission described as good elections despite shortcomings.

“France supports the unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of BiH, but we are concerned about the initiatives of the RS authorities that threaten the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of BiH, which are at the core of the Dayton Agreement. France is convinced that the future of BiH is in the EU,” he said, assessing that the decision from March 2024 to open negotiations was a clear sign and that BiH has a unique opportunity to progress towards the EU.

France calls on the authorities in BiH to work together with the EU and to cooperate with the chief negotiator on the accession process.
