Large number of Bosniak intellectuals participated in drafting the new Constitution of the Islamic Community

A surprisingly large number of Bosniak intellectuals participated in the drafting of the new Constitution of the Islamic Community of BiH, which is expected to be adopted by the IC Assembly by the end of March or at the latest by April this year.

As Safet Softić, President of the IC Assembly - the highest representative and legislative body of the Islamic Community in BiH, confirmed for the BiH news agency Patria (NAP), this is the first time in the history of the IC in BiH that its Constitution is being amended with such freedom and so thoroughly.

Proposals for the new IC Constitution did not only come from BiH. The new Constitution also sparked interest among Bosniak intellectuals from around the world.

Answering the question about the reason for such interest in drafting the new IC Constitution, Softić said that the Islamic Community is the fundamental organization of Bosniaks, their main pillar, backbone, and the most responsible for the survival of this nation in these areas, hence the interest in strengthening it.

- A strong and organized IC means strong and organized Bosniaks - says Softić.

Softić told NAP that the new IC Constitution does not plan for this organization to interfere in society more than is possible given the time and space in which Bosniaks currently live. The goal of the new Constitution, he explained, is more focused on strengthening unity within the Islamic Community.

- By this, I mean unity including Bosnia and Herzegovina, surrounding countries, and the diaspora - says Softić, once again emphasizing the importance of unity within the IC. The stronger and more united the IC is within itself, the stronger the Bosniaks will be, and the more significant the voice of the IC will be in society, especially when some important decisions are made for the future of this country.

Softić said that the IC has long ceased to be an exclusive organization of the ulema, but rather an organization of all believers. He says that the fact that a large number of members of the IC Assembly, as the highest body of this organization, are not only employees of the Islamic Community speaks best to this.
