(Patria) - British Prime Minister Theresa May handed in her resignation to Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.
On her last day in office, May answered questions from Members of Parliament in the House of Commons, noting that after 21 years she would once again be a Member of Parliament.
She emphasized that the position of Prime Minister was 'the greatest honour' for her, and wished future Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his team much luck in their future work.
Newly elected Prime Minister Boris Johnson immediately showed his determination regarding the implementation of Brexit by dismissing more than half of Theresa May's cabinet, appointing a new team that the public considers hardline Brexiteers.
Thus, former Home Secretary Priti Patel, who was once dismissed by Theresa May, was appointed as the new Home Secretary, while Dominic Raab, who was also in the first round of the race for the leadership of the Conservative Party, became the new Foreign Secretary.
Conservative MP of Pakistani origin Sajid Javid, who finished in a high 4th place in the race for party leader, became the new Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Jacob Rees-Mogg, also a 'Brexiteer' and chairman of the European Research Group, who led the initiative to oust Theresa May, will head the House of Commons.
Boris Johnson's biggest rival in the race for the top position, Jeremy Hunt, was also affected by the 'purge' – he was offered the position of Defence Secretary, having previously been Foreign Secretary, which he apparently considered a demotion and refused the position.
Dominic Cummings, the controversial director of the Vote Leave campaign, was appointed as the Prime Minister's senior advisor, which shocked even Johnson's close associates.
Former Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson will be the new Education Secretary, despite being dismissed by Theresa May just three months ago over suspicions of leaking confidential security information.
Johnson continues to insist that he will implement Brexit by October 31, without further delay. 'The British people have waited long enough. It is time to act, to decide, to provide strong leadership to move this country forward,' stated the new Prime Minister, who also promised to hire an additional 20,000 police officers, reduce waiting times for GP appointments, improve the state of hospitals, and increase the budget for schoolchildren.
