Velež successfully reclaims the 1981 Marshal Tito Cup trophy

MOSTAR, (Patria) - The Marshal Tito Cup trophy, won by FK Velež in 1981, is returning to Velež's ownership and will once again adorn the premises of the Mostar club, reports the Patria agency.

Thanks to the efforts of Vahid Halilhodžić, Enes Vukotić, and Sulejman Mrgan, the Marshal Tito Cup trophy will once again grace the premises of FK Velež.

As many are aware, after being expelled from the Pod Bijelim Brijegom stadium, FK Velež lost its property and a large number of trophies. Only thanks to the great courage of certain individuals, a few were saved, and among them, certainly one of the most valuable is the Marshal Tito Cup trophy from 1981.

- We sincerely hope that in the coming period we will also manage to retrieve the 1986 Cup trophy, so that it can once again adorn the club's premises and remind us of Velež's golden moments - stated the Mostar club.

Vahid Halilhodžić thanked Sulejman Mrgan for safeguarding this trophy, to which he is extremely attached and which he held for a long time.

In 1981, at the Marakana stadium in Belgrade, in front of 40,000 spectators, Velež defeated Sarajevo's Željezničar 3-2 and won the Yugoslav Cup, which was then called the Marshal Tito Cup.

For Velež, Vahid Halilhodžić scored two goals, and the third was scored by Dragan Okuka, while Mehmed Baždarević scored both goals for the team from Grbavica.

Upon their return to Mostar, the Velež players were welcomed at the Pod Bijelim Brijegom stadium by more than 20,000 people who sang in unison, "The white tulip has bloomed, Velež carries the Marshal's Cup.".
