Velež defeats Željezničar with Guliashvili's goal, spoiling Manijaci's birthday

(Patria) - In the 17th round, old rivals FK Željezničar and visitors from Mostar, FK Velež, faced off at Grbavica. With a goal from Guliashvili, Velež achieved a minimal 0-1 victory and continued their unbeaten streak.

The old rivals started the match in different moods, with Velež on a six-game unbeaten run, while hosts Željezničar have not won in three rounds.

The match began with a spectacular choreography by the home fans, Manijaci, celebrating their 36th birthday, and as early as the 4th minute, Haračić had a good chance to give the home team the lead, but shot wide.

After that opportunity, there were no major excitements, except that Manijaci continued their birthday celebration, and at one point, another performance by Željezničar's most fervent fans could be seen in the south stand.

"Željo's jersey is not a fashion accessory, you'd have been better off studying!", read one of the banners in the stands.

A brief interruption due to fireworks from the home team occurred in the 29th minute.

In the 34th minute, Mekić took a shot from distance, which Hadžikić saved.

Another half-chance for Haračić after a cross from the right, but without major problems for Hadžikić; Velež had not yet done anything significant.

In the 37th minute, the visitors threatened for the first time; Tarik Šikalo found himself in an excellent position, but did not react in the best way, and Velež's first chance was missed.

In the 44th minute, Vehabović shot from a free kick, but only hit the outside of the net.

The score at halftime was the unpopular 0-0.

The second half began with a great chance for Vehabović in the 52nd minute, but fortunately for the home team, Cocalić was in place and blocked Vehabović's attempt.

In the 54th minute, there was another interruption due to flares from the home team.

Guliashvili scored in the 66th minute, bringing joy to the visiting fans and giving Velež a 0-1 lead. Edo Vehabović was the assist provider, and Guliashvili now has 5 goals this season.

Željezničar tried to score an equalizer, but without much success; Velež defended exceptionally well.

After a corner in the 79th minute, the ball reached Gasal, but Hadžikić made an excellent save.

Velež could have sealed the victory in the 83rd minute, but Guliashvili's shot went over the goal.

Referee Bilbija added 6 minutes of stoppage time, and Selimović moved up front, trying to contribute to Željezničar's attack with his aerial play.

Just before the end, a message from Manijaci: "You'd have been better off studying!"

Referee Bilbija signaled the end of the match.

With this victory, Velež moved up to third place in the standings, two points ahead of Sarajevo with a game in hand, while Željezničar is in eighth place with 19 points.
