Wahhabis are a nonsense of BiH society, but you have no right to compare them to Chetniks

Wahhabis or Salafis are a nonsense of the Bosniak people and their culture, tradition, practice of Islam... However, they cannot be compared to Chetniks, who 15 years ago committed genocide in the Drina valley.

Chetniks killed tens of thousands of people. In Dobrun, where they hold a (Chetnik) rally, there are no longer any Bosniaks, or only a few families remain – said Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo Šemso Tucaković in an interview for Al Jazeera, responding to a question from journalist Adnan Rondić about why there is no reaction from the authorities (to the parading of Chetniks in Višegrad on March 13, 2015), while on the other hand we witness several police actions in the village of Maoča, where the so-called informal Wahhabi or Salafi movement is located, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

- I do not expect Milorad Dodik to ban the gathering (of Chetniks), because thanks to the Chetniks, he is in power. But, how are the others silent...? Where are the Bosniak structures? Where is the so-called front? Where is that SDP that cherishes the tradition of the National Liberation War and anti-fascism, could they not have organized a counter-rally to those Chetniks – criticized Tucaković.

Chetniks, explained this university professor, originated at the beginning of the 20th century as a terrorist organization of the then Kingdom of Serbia, to carry out terror against the Bosniak population in Sandžak, Kosovo, and Macedonia, which were then under Ottoman rule.

- Those Chetniks carried out terror. After World War I, they were a paramilitary formation, they paraded, they sang as they sing today... and in World War II, under the command of General Mihajlović, who is one of the greatest war criminals of World War II, they committed horrific crimes against the Bosniak population.

I have researched and published several books on the Chetnik movement. In the Drina valley and in the valleys of the Drina tributaries in Sandžak, Chetniks killed 100,000 to 110,000 Bosniaks. This is being kept silent... – says Tucaković, adding that the ideology of the Chetniks was fully applied during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which began in 1991 and lasted until 1995.

- In Foča, where genocide was committed, the main street was renamed after Pavle Đurišić, who killed 8,000 women and children in Sandžak. Zagrebačka Street in Sarajevo was renamed Draža Mihajlović Street. So, all of this is an ideology that continued from World War II.

Professor Tucaković believes that the Chetnik organization, founded as a terrorist one, continues to operate in this time, i.e., in the post-war period in BiH, just as it operated between the two world wars.
