Vedran Tuce appointed new director of the National Theatre Sarajevo

(Patria) - By decision of the Government of Sarajevo Canton (KS) at today's session, Vedran Tuce has been officially appointed as the new director of the National Theatre Sarajevo (NPS).

Tuce, who was nominated for this position by Naša stranka, was the only candidate in the selection process.

He will replace Ermin Sijami, who has been acting director since February of this year, after the previous director Dino Mustafić resigned from that position.

Vedran Tuce was born in 1976 in Zenica, where he completed his primary and secondary music education in two departments - theoretical and wind (clarinet), while simultaneously attending a mathematics gymnasium.

He began his higher education in 1996 at the Sarajevo Music Academy, where he graduated three years later with the highest grades in the class of Professor Aleksije Rađan. He obtained his master's degree in the same instrument in 2002.

He continued his professional development in Switzerland, at the Bern University of the Arts (Hochschule der Kunste Bern). There, in 2007, under the mentorship of Professor Ernest Molinari, he successfully completed a three-year postgraduate program for clarinet and bass clarinet, receiving the highest grade.

As Head of the Department of Wind Instruments and Accordion since 2008, Tuce initiated the renewal of the oboe, horn, saxophone, and bassoon departments, which had been closed at the Academy in Sarajevo since the war year of 1992.

During a four-year period (2008-2012), he actively participated in the implementation of the Bologna reform and the establishment of a quality assurance system.

His work included aligning domestic study programs with modern world standards, and he was a key member of commissions that defined the rules for the second and third cycles of study. He published his expert analyses on these topics in several scientific collections of the University of Sarajevo.

Tuce is currently the director of the Sarajevo Philharmonic, and his performing career includes performances throughout Europe and the USA, including prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Great Mason Lodge.

Through years of work, he was part of the Zenica Symphony Orchestra, and during the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons, he was engaged as the principal clarinetist of the Sarajevo Philharmonic, performing a wide repertoire from symphonic works to opera and ballet productions. As a soloist, he collaborated with all major orchestras in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo, Zenica, Mostar).

He is one of the founders of the ensemble SONEMUS, with whom he realized about 70 international concerts and promoted contemporary music through numerous Bosnian premieres and recordings.

Since 2011, he has performed with the Sarajevo quintet PER SEMPRE, and has also collaborated with renowned European ensembles such as PREART and Rue du Nord.

He is often engaged as a jury member at international competitions and as an instructor at masterclasses.

In his playing, he applies the most modern techniques and continuously explores the innovative sound possibilities of the clarinet and bass clarinet.
