Ramadan, the holy month for Muslims, began tonight with the evening prayer

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - According to the calendar of the Riyaset of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ramadan, the most chosen month for Muslims, began tonight with the evening prayer.

It is the month of fasting, mercy, and forgiveness, the month of the Quran.

The first tarawih prayer will also be performed in mosques.

The first day of fasting begins tomorrow, May 6.

Adult and healthy Muslim men and women fast from food and drink from dawn to sunset, while believers strive to do as many noble deeds as possible throughout Ramadan, seeking to gain God's pleasure and moral purification.

In addition to the moral dimension, fasting also plays a role from a health perspective, as by abstaining from food, believers help their bodies to cleanse themselves.

On the first day of Ramadan, Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina fast from 3:26 AM to 8:01 PM, which is almost 17 hours without food and water. As the Ramadan days pass, the fasting time will be extended, so on the last day of Ramadan, believers will fast from 2:36 AM to 8:28 PM.

During Ramadan, believers prepare iftars (evening meals), to which they invite relatives and friends to break their fast together for the day.

Eid al-Fitr prayer is on June 4, marking the end of the month of Ramadan and fasting, and it is one of the two greatest Muslim holidays.
