State of emergency in the Spreča basin and downstream from the Modrac lake reservoir, authorities advised caution in the coming days

(Patria) - There is currently a state of hydrological emergency in the area of the Spreča river basin upstream and downstream from the Modrac reservoir. According to the current forecast, stabilization of water levels on the Spreča river is expected during tomorrow, which also depends on the management of the Modrac reservoir, announced the Agency for the Sava River Water District regarding the current water level situation.

As stated, most hydrological stations in the Sava River water district in the Federation of BiH are currently recording stagnation in water levels, except in the lower part of the Bosna, Spreča and Sava river basins.

"Due to inflow from the entire basin, the water level on the Sava River will rise in the coming days. According to the forecast of the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute, new precipitation is expected in the coming days, but in amounts that will not lead to a significant increase in water levels in the Sava River water district," point out from AVP Sava.

The hydrological situation, they add, depends on forecast precipitation data. Any change in these may also affect the forecast hydrological situation.

In the event of a significant change in weather conditions in the Sava River water district, AVP Sava will issue a new notice in a timely manner.

"We suggest that competent institutions monitor the situation on the ground and act in accordance with their authorities, and we recommend increased caution to services implementing measures and activities for the protection and rescue of people and material goods," the statement reads.
