(Patria) - A state of emergency has been declared in the municipality of Foča due to a significant increase in the water levels of the Ćehotina and Drina rivers and disruptions in the electricity supply, reports RTRs.
The greatest fear, along with heavy rain that is constantly falling, is caused by the "Mratinje" Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Piva River in Montenegro, which, according to the Municipal Civil Protection Headquarters, is operating with three turbines and releasing large quantities of water that are increasing the Drina River's level.
The Municipality of Foča is calling on the Ministry of Energy and Elektroprivreda RS to urgently agree with their colleagues in Montenegro to suspend or reduce production before a catastrophe occurs.
An appeal has also been made for assistance to the employees of Elektrodistribucija, who cannot independently restore the damaged power grid, leaving numerous settlements without electricity.
Earlier today, Zvornik also declared a state of emergency, and "Vode RS" issued a warning for the Drina River basin.
