(Patria) - An act of vandalism that sparked outrage among citizens was recorded this morning in Veliki Park in the centre of Sarajevo.
Unknown individuals toppled an old tombstone, one of the historical monuments testifying to the past of the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports Faktor.
Photos from the scene show that the tombstone was knocked down and damaged, which has sparked numerous reactions on social media.
Citizens warn that this is yet another example of irresponsible attitude towards public space and the cultural and historical heritage of Sarajevo.
"People, are you aware of what you are doing? Is there anything sacred to you, anything worthy of respect? What kind of attitude are you showing towards the city you live in? Sarajevo is nobody's dump nor a place for arrogance and vandalism.
This is our city, our common home and a mirror of all of us," states a Facebook post by councillor in the Novo Sarajevo Municipal Council and the Sarajevo City Council Srđan Srdić (Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Veliki Park is one of the most recognisable green areas in the centre of Sarajevo and a place visited daily by numerous citizens and tourists.
Therefore, the incident has further disturbed the public, which expects the relevant authorities to determine the circumstances of this event and identify those responsible.
