(Patria) - The fifth meeting of the Organizational Committee for marking the 11th of July 1995, the 29th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the "UN Safe Area" Srebrenica was held today at the Potočari Memorial Center - Srebrenica.
At today's meeting, among other things, the Program for marking the 29th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the "UN Safe Area" Srebrenica was adopted.
- All subcommittees are preparing activities, and I am convinced that everything will be ready for marking the 29th anniversary of the genocide.
Everyone is maximally committed to their obligations - said the president of the Organizational Committee, Hamdija Fejzić.
He states that the Organizational Committee is facing financial problems regarding the organization of the commemoration of the 29th anniversary of the genocide.
- It is known that we had to form a Foundation whose task is to organize the anniversary of the genocide as a legal entity.
Previously, this was done through a special account of the Municipality of Srebrenica, but after the dismissal of the Deputy Mayor, this is no longer possible.
Currently, the financial situation is dire, to the point that the organization of the commemoration and funeral prayer on July 11th is in question.
We have sent letters to all relevant institutions that provided financial support for the organization in previous years, however, we generally have not received any feedback yet - said Fejzić.
This year, several thousand participants are expected in the Peace March, and registrations are ongoing. All interested parties can register until July 5, 2024.
- The initial deadline for registration was July 1st. However, due to organized groups, we moved the deadline to July 5th.
However, all those who arrive on the morning of July 8th in Nezuk will be accredited and can participate in the Peace March. We are preparing for five thousand participants, but if there are more, there will be no problems.
In the past period, we have carried out work on the route, and the final reconnaissance of the route is scheduled for July 2nd. Currently, we have over two thousand registered participants - said the president of the subcommittee for the "Peace March", Suljo Čakanović.
According to information from the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 14 victims of the genocide have been identified so far, and their funeral prayers and burial will be held on July 11th in Potočari.
