(Patria) - The fourth meeting of the Organising Committee for the commemoration of the 29th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the UN Safe Area Srebrenica in July 1995 was held today at the Srebrenica Memorial Centre.
The meeting discussed the activities carried out so far as part of the preparations for the 29th anniversary of the genocide.
The Organising Committee welcomed the adoption of the UN Resolution on the Srebrenica Genocide and thanked all those who contributed to its adoption.
- I am, again I stress, sorry that Serbia was not a co-sponsor of the resolution. We are glad that the resolution was adopted, and that is an important step. I take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the adoption of the resolution. Thank you to our Presidency members, our ambassador to the UN, and everyone who made an effort for the resolution to be adopted. It is important for us that Srebrenica is talked about - said Munira Subašić, president of the association "Movement of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves".
Hamdija Fejzić, president of the Organising Committee for the commemoration of the 29th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the UN Safe Area Srebrenica, emphasised that preparations are proceeding according to plan and that the Organising Committee adopted the Draft Programme of Commemoration.
- In the coming days, there will probably be some additions to the Commemoration Programme, and in a few weeks we will adopt the final Programme. Essentially, the team that worked in previous years is working now. We don't have much time left, but I believe everything will be ready for the anniversary. We have an obligation to the victims. Preparations are underway for all activities. The focus is also on the Peace March, as this year marks 20 years since the first Peace March. We expect a large number of participants - Fejzić pointed out.
As part of the genocide anniversary, the Peace March will be organised again this year. It is estimated that more than five thousand participants will take part in this year's "Peace March".
- Applications are ongoing, and all interested parties can apply on our website marsmira.net and the Peace March Facebook page. I must emphasise that there have been many inquiries about the security situation, and I hereby state that the security situation is good and that there is absolutely no obstacle for interested parties to apply and participate in the Peace March. This year marks 20 years since the first Peace March, and that is our focus - emphasised Suljo Čakanović, president of the subcommittee for the "Peace March".
According to information from the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 11 victims of the genocide have been identified so far, who will find their eternal rest on 11 July in Potočari.https://marsmira.net/
