Successful BiH skier Muzaferija: The effort paid off, the Olympics is every athlete's dream

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A press conference was held today at the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zetra, where twenty-one-year-old Elvedina Muzaferija, the best competitor from Bosnia and Herzegovina in alpine skiing, addressed the journalists.

Let us remind you, on January 12th in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Austria, she took 29th place in the alpine combined (slalom and super-G races), winning two points. In this way, she won her first World Cup points in her career, and at the same time brought the first points for Bosnia and Herzegovina ever in the World Cup.

"The feeling is great. That was the final goal for this season, to win points in the World Cup. The best skiers are here, and there was nervousness. All the effort paid off in the end. This is an incentive for further work. Of course, the results would be better if I had a bigger team. There is only my coach from Romania now. We managed to arrange cooperation with the German and Swedish teams, and we have great help from them. When we have a video of the run, it means a lot to us so we can prepare. It would mean a lot to us if we had a ski technician on the team, so the coach wouldn't have to worry about the skis.

In the rest of the season, I will focus on the Europa Cup races in speed disciplines in Italy and Switzerland, and then, depending on my current form, I will decide whether to compete in Crans Montana in the World Cup combined and downhill races. The most important competition this season will be the Junior World Championships in early March in Norway. Of course, all of this will be preparation for the Olympics, which is every athlete's dream," says Elvedina Muzaferija, who thanked the companies Prevent, RM-LH, and VINS for their support, as well as the Olympic Committee, of which she has been a scholarship holder for several years.

Jasmin Mehić, president of the Ski Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, also spoke at the press conference.

"Elvedina confirmed her great form. We will not put too much pressure on her for the rest of the season. She has already done enough. In the next two years, our priority will be the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. Elvedina is our first competitor who decided to focus on speed disciplines, which require particularly demanding preparation. During training, skiers have 200 to 250 days of skiing, while Elvedina manages 100 to 120 days. If we can support her, we can expect even better results from Muzaferija," Mehić emphasized on this occasion.
