(Patria) - The bishops of the Bishops' Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mons. Tomo Vukšić, Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Mons. Petar Palić, Bishop of Mostar-Duvno and Apostolic Administrator of Trebinje-Mrkan, Mons. Željko Majić, Bishop of Banja Luka, and Mons. Miro Relota, Military Ordinary in BiH, have issued a joint Easter message.
Archbishop of Vrhbosna Mons. Tomo Vukšić today held a public reading of the message at the Archbishop's Residence in Sarajevo.
In the message, the bishops of the Bishops' Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina, among other things, state that in a time marked by tensions, conflicts, uncertainties and many divisions, the Easter message calls for a return to the source of true peace.
Often we, like the disciples after Good Friday, lock ourselves into spaces of our own fears, insecurities and disappointments. But it is precisely into such closed spaces of our lives that the risen Christ comes. His presence illuminates the darkness of the heart, restores lost trust and grants a peace that frees from the paralysis of fear. The encounter with the Risen One enables us not to be people of hopelessness, but people of hope, those who, in the light of the resurrection, know how to recognize the possibility of a new beginning and who are ready to build bridges of reconciliation where divisions threaten.
For centuries, the Christian faith has drawn strength from this inextinguishable truth. Throughout history, the Church has repeatedly viewed Christ's resurrection as a source of light for every new generation of believers. In it, we recognize God's decisive and enduring "yes" to man and life. The risen Lord confirms that love does not cease and that good has the final word. There is no darkness so deep that God's light cannot illuminate it, nor a wound that His grace cannot heal. Therefore, Easter remains the lasting foundation of our hope and the strength that guides us through all the challenges of the time.
The message of the bishops of the Bishops' Conference of BiH states that Easter is not just a feast we celebrate in liturgical celebration; it is a permanent call to a new way of life.
- The encounter with the risen Christ does not end in the joy of Easter morning, but continues in the daily lives of those who believe in His victory over death. The risen Lord sends His disciples to be witnesses of His peace in the world. This call begins in the closest space of our lives: in our own hearts, in our families, in parish communities, at workplaces and in the society in which we live. Where the spirit of the Gospel is lived, there Christ's peace becomes a lasting force that changes relationships among people and opens the way to new hope.
Our homeland Bosnia and Herzegovina carries a deep experience of wounded history, but at the same time a strong longing for peace, justice and mutual trust. Precisely because of this, the Easter message has a special strength and responsibility for us. Christ's peace is not a sign of weakness nor an escape from reality; it is a strength that has the power to transform human hearts. It is a peace that does not remain silent before injustice, but heals it through forgiveness, tearing down walls of alienation and connecting us into one human family. It teaches us not to see in the other an opponent or a stranger, but a brother and sister with whom we share the same human path and the same dignity of a child of God - the joint message of the bishops states.
Easter, they say, reminds us that Christian hope is not naive optimism nor mere anticipation of better circumstances. It is deep trust in God who guides history and who never abandons man.
The risen Christ stands at the beginning of every new beginning. Where man opens himself to God and neighbor, there a "new spring" of life is born: trust is renewed, solidarity is strengthened, and hope is reawakened that it is possible to build a more just and humane world. Therefore, Easter always calls us anew to be people of Easter hope, people who believe that good triumphs and who are ready to confirm that faith through deeds of love and reconciliation.
- With united hearts, we address our prayers to the risen Jesus, that the light of Easter morning may illuminate our lives and light the path we walk as believers and as a people. In these circumstances of fragile peace and ongoing conflicts, we pray that His quiet but powerful light may enter this world, into our families, into our communities and into our homeland. We pray that where shadows of fear, mistrust or indifference loom, the strength of faith and the warmth of mutual closeness may shine again. As we celebrate the victory of life over death, we are aware that Easter joy is not a fleeting feeling of one day, but a gift that accompanies and shapes us throughout the entire year.
The risen Christ calls us to be bearers of His peace and witnesses of hope in a world that longs for reconciliation and new trust. May He grant us the wisdom of heart to recognize the path of good and have the strength to walk it steadfastly, guided by the faith that carries us even through the greatest trials of the time.
May the joy of Easter fill your hearts, homes and families, and may the peace of the risen Lord accompany and strengthen you in every day of life. Happy and blessed Easter! - state Tomo Vukšić, Archbishop of Vrhbosna and Metropolitan, Mons. Petar Palić, Bishop of Mostar-Duvno and Apostolic Administrator of Trebinje-Mrkan, Mons. Željko Majić, Bishop of Banja Luka, and Mons. Miro Relota, Military Ordinary in BiH.
