Ursula von der Leyen announces €15 billion support fund to fight pandemic

(Patria) – European Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen announced that the European Union will secure more than €15 billion to fight the coronavirus.

She emphasised that it is in the EU's interest for the fight against the pandemic to be successful worldwide.

- We will defeat the virus if we are united and work together, the Commissioner said via Twitter.

Euronews reports that last week von der Leyen announced a €100 billion plan aimed at preventing layoffs in EU countries, thereby averting a recession.

Most EU member states are in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, with Italy, Spain, France and Germany being the hardest hit on the European continent, which became the epicentre in the early phase of the pandemic.
