Office for Combating Corruption Publishes Register of Service Contracts and Register of Public Calls for Appointments in Sarajevo Canton Public Sector

(Patria) - The Office for Combating Corruption of Sarajevo Canton has published on its website the Register of Service Contracts and the Register of Public Calls for the selection and appointment in supervisory, management, and leadership bodies in the public sector of Sarajevo Canton, as well as an electronic integrity plan.

The Head of the Office for Combating Corruption of Sarajevo Canton, Erduan Kafedžić, stated that the Office is completing the construction of a transparency system in Sarajevo Canton in this manner, and that the establishment of a concession register in Sarajevo Canton remains to be done.

"If corruption is a disease, then transparency is the cure. Today, we face many abuses in all processes. Through analysis, we have identified high-risk processes in the awarding of service contracts, the publication of public calls for public office holders, and the implementation of measures from integrity plans. The registers can be used for various purposes aimed at detecting and preventing corruption in the public sector," said Kafedžić.

He notes that the anti-corruption system in Sarajevo Canton is certainly keeping pace with practices in European Union countries. It consists of human resources, a legal framework, and an information system.

"The Register of Service Contracts is a transparent, efficient, centralized control system. The Office does not currently have the capacity to oversee all of this, which is why it is important for the media, in cooperation with civil society organizations and the Office, to daily search these data and report irregularities," added the Head of the Office.

The Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Thomas Busch, stated that the presented analytical reports will enable the public to monitor the implementation of anti-corruption measures in public institutions in Sarajevo Canton, which contribute to the more effective implementation of the Law on Prevention and Suppression of Corruption in Sarajevo Canton.

"The registers will be subject to public scrutiny, exposing some of the most risky processes in the public sector of Sarajevo Canton and helping to improve public trust. In addition, analytical reports on the implementation of anti-corruption measures will increase transparency within public institutions in Sarajevo Canton. The introduction of digital tools in corruption prevention serves to enhance public trust in cantonal institutions. It allows insight into some of the aspects of public activity that are most susceptible to corruption. Therefore, the establishment of these registers marks an important step as a result of the joint efforts of the Government of Sarajevo Canton, the Office for Combating Corruption, and the Mission that provided its support," stated Busch.
