(Patria) - A spokesperson from German Chancellor Angela Merkel's office told N1 television that Chancellor Merkel was not aware of the songs that would be played during the party rally in Zagreb, nor of the content of those songs.
"Chancellor Merkel clearly expressed her stance against nationalism during her entire visit to Zagreb," the spokesperson said.
Angela Merkel and Manfred Weber, the leading EPP candidate for President of the European Commission, visited Zagreb, from where they stated that nationalism is an enemy that wants to destroy Europe.
At the rally in the Cibona hall, organized by HDZ, guests were played a song by the controversial Marko Perković Thompson, whose performances have been banned in Germany.
German media reported that the Chancellor attended a rally where a song by "Ustasha bard Marko Perković Thompson, whose concerts have been repeatedly banned in Germany in recent years," was played, NAP reports.
