Warning Issued for Bistrički Potok and a Risky Location in Sarajevo: This is a Potential Landslide

(Patria) - The Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo has informed the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, the Federal Civil Protection Administration, the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration, and the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad about observed earth embankments in Bistrički Potok, as well as the relocation of felled tree trunks into it in connection with the construction of the "Trebević Hills" residential-commercial complex on Zlatište, in light of current weather conditions.

The Municipality has called on these competent institutions to take joint action to resolve these issues, as stated on the official website of the Municipality of Stari Grad.

"At the site where the 'Trebević Hills' complex is being built, a large area of trees has been cleared, bordering a populated area, which may increase the risk of landslides if all requirements of the relevant profession are not met.

Furthermore, earth embankments within Bistrički Potok, due to heavy rainfall, could cause water overflow.

In this regard, the Municipality has sent a letter to the competent institutions, pointing out potential problems and the complexity of the situation regarding jurisdiction, given that the construction is taking place in the Republika Srpska, while potentially endangered facilities near Bistrički Potok are located on the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Today, representatives of the Municipal Inspection, in cooperation with the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs and the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs, conducted an on-site inspection. After reviewing the entire situation, further steps will be taken in accordance with established competencies.

In order to protect human life and property, due to potential forest clearing in the quarry area in the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk, has also been informed.

The Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo will take further steps towards the competent institutions.

It is important to note that the Municipality is cleaning part of Bistrički Potok in Stari Grad, but this is not enough to prevent disasters if action is not taken in Istočni Stari Grad," the statement reads.
