(Patria) - Landslides, not just floods, are a potential problem of the announced heavy rainfall. Stones have fallen onto the roadway on the Travnik – Banja Luka highway.
Due to heavy rains, landslides of stones onto the roadway have become more frequent, so drivers are warned to drive cautiously and adjust their speed to the road conditions. The Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection of Sarajevo Canton warns of the danger of floods and recommends taking preventive measures, considering the forecasts from the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute as well as the European Flood Awareness System (EFAS) platform and other available platforms, which predict rainfall during this week.
As they state, the current slight increase in water levels on watercourses in Sarajevo Canton, along with snowmelt from the surrounding mountains and predicted rainfall, could lead to rivers overflowing their banks, both larger watercourses and their tributaries, as well as the emergence of groundwater.
"The possibility of watercourses overflowing exists and mostly relates to the upper part of the Bosna river basin with its tributaries Željeznica, Zujevina, and Miljacka. In order to prevent major floods, i.e., flooding of residential and other buildings, arable and other land, damage to traffic communications, water supply and utility infrastructure, as well as disruption of life flows, we recommend that all legal and natural persons take preventive protection and rescue measures against floods, especially along watercourses, to protect human health and lives, as well as material and cultural goods," the Administration stated.
