(Patria) - The Sava River Water Basin Agency has issued a notice on the forecast of an extraordinary hydrological situation for the period from January 8 to 11. According to the agency, due to the rapid melting of snow, a rise in water levels has been recorded in most of the Sava River water basin in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in the basins of the Sana, Sanica, and Spreca rivers.
Notification levels defined by the Federal Operational Flood Defense Plan have been reached at the hydrological stations: HS Sanski Most, HS Sanica, and HS Karanovac.
Given the forecasted air temperatures today and tomorrow, additional runoff is expected due to snowmelt from the mountainous parts of the basin, which will also cause water levels to rise at all hydrological stations.
An extraordinary hydrological situation is forecasted for the next four days due to elevated water levels and possible local flooding, especially in the areas of the upper and middle parts of the Sana and Sanica basins, and the lower part of the Spreca basin.
The notice on the forecast of an extraordinary hydrological situation applies to the Una-Sana Canton (USK) and Tuzla Canton (TK), i.e., the cities/municipalities of Sanski Most, Ključ, and Gračanica, the Sava River Water Basin Agency announced.
The agency suggests that competent institutions monitor the situation on the ground and act in accordance with their authorities, and recommends increased caution for services implementing measures and activities for the protection and rescue of people and property.
Competent civil protection services should warn the public about the danger of approaching riverbanks due to possible increases in water depth and flow speed, and provide timely information with instructions and guidelines so that the public can take self-protection measures in time, with the aim of reducing damage from the harmful effects of floods, the Sava River Water Basin Agency stated.
Information on current and measured water levels at all hydrological stations in the Sava River water basin in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is available on the website of the Sava River Water Basin Agency, www.voda.ba.
The Sava River Water Basin Agency notes that the notice is based on forecasted precipitation and temperature data, so changes in the weather forecast may also affect the forecasted hydrological situation.
