
(Patria) - A presentation of the Master Plan and basic elements from the feasibility study for the University of Sarajevo Campus, prepared in cooperation with Arup Group ltd. within the project "Urban Regeneration of the University of Sarajevo Campus", was held today at the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo.
Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, President of the Plan Council and Vice-Rector for Finance of the University of Sarajevo, presented the Master Plan of the University of Sarajevo Campus to the Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton Prof. Dr. Pavle Krstić, Mayor of Novo Sarajevo Municipality Hasan Tanović, representatives of the KS Development Planning Institute and relevant municipal services. The meeting was also attended by members of the Plan Council: Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Prof. Dr. Denis Zvizdić, Prof. Dr. Samir Dolarević, Prof. Dr. Izet Bijelonja, Prof. Dr. Adnan Pašić and Lejla Hajro, Director of the Campus Construction and Maintenance Directorate, as well as the President of the University's Board of Directors Dr. Murat Ramadanović and members of the Board of Directors.
The implementation of the Master Plan will contribute to improving public access to various facilities and buildings, including measures that will increase urban resilience, thereby achieving positive effects on other parts of the city. This project will not only improve the quality of higher education in Sarajevo but will also serve as an example of urban planning and development that will inspire other cities in the region.
The conclusion of the meeting is that the University of Sarajevo will submit an initiative to declare the Campus an area of importance for Sarajevo Canton. Also, in the coming period, the Master Plan for the Campus will be presented to the Government of Sarajevo Canton and the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton.
An agreement on the implementation of the Urban Regeneration Project of the University of Sarajevo Campus between the Government of Sarajevo Canton, the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo, the Development Planning Institute of Sarajevo Canton, and the University of Sarajevo was signed in 2022. The project, which will ultimately enable the spatial integration of various educational and scientific-research units of the University of Sarajevo into a unified modern campus, is financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) in partnership with the French Development Agency (AFD).
Today's event represents an important step towards modernizing the education system and improving urban areas, creating space for intellectual growth, innovation, and social progress.
