(Patria) - He kept asking me (Džeko) when I would come. I told him to be patient. Today I finally arrived and I am very happy. We had a great time with him in Rome. Now we are together. I will make sure he scores as many goals as possible, said Cengiz Ünder.
Turkish national football player Cengiz Ünder will continue his career at Fenerbahçe, and it seems that his former Roma teammate and Bosnian national team player, as well as Fenerbahçe footballer Edin Džeko, significantly contributed to the transfer, reports Anadolu, as carried by scsport.ba.
A group of Fenerbahçe fans welcomed the 26-year-old winger, who arrived by private plane at Atatürk Airport.
“It is special to return to Turkey after playing in Europe for years. The first match I played in the Süper Lig was against Fenerbahçe. I came to the biggest Turkish club. I can't wait to step onto the pitch. I will give my best. Let no one doubt that,” said Ünder upon his arrival in Istanbul, where he is expected to be officially presented at Fenerbahçe soon.
He revealed that during the transfer process he spoke very often with Bosnian national team player Edin Džeko, with whom he will now play together in the Fenerbahçe jersey.
“He kept asking me (Džeko) when I would come. I told him to be patient. Today I finally arrived and I am very happy. We had a great time with him in Rome. Now we are together. I will make sure he scores as many goals as possible,” said Ünder.
Emphasising that he wants to open a new chapter in his career, Ünder said: “I told my manager that I want to return to my country. There were frequent meetings in the summer. Making Fenerbahçe champions is one of my biggest goals right now. I am a footballer with high self-confidence. I will show that to everyone.”
Ünder and Džeko spent three seasons together at Roma.
