Slavko Aleksić died: Terrorized Sarajevo during the war, convicted of spreading hatred in peacetime

(Patria) - Slavko Aleksić, known as Vojvoda, a member of the "Ravnogorski pokret Republike Srpske" (Ravnogora Movement of Republika Srpska) who was finally convicted by the State Court for spreading hatred, has died at the Trebinje Hospital, Detektor has confirmed at this institution.

Aleksić was born in Bileća in 1956, and spent part of his life in Sarajevo. During the war, he was the commander of the Novo Sarajevo Chetnik detachment.

The Court of BiH sentenced Aleksić and two other members of the Ravnogora Movement, Dušan Sladojević and Risto Lečić, to five months in prison each for inciting national, racial, and religious hatred, discord, and intolerance in Višegrad in March 2019. Aleksić and the others later commuted their prison sentences to fines.

The verdict states that at a gathering on March 10, 2019, Sladojević, as the president of the "Ravnogorski pokret Republike Srpske", after a formation review, addressed the attendees and reported to Aleksić, while a song with fear-inducing lyrics was played in the background.

According to the verdict, after Sladojević reported to him at the "Draževina" location, Aleksić addressed the attendees with the words "Brothers Ravnogorci, brothers Chetniks", while those present used fear-inducing terminology, and the song "Sprem'te se, sprem'te, četnici" (Get ready, get ready, Chetniks) was played over the loudspeakers.

Lečić was convicted for singing a song with gusle at the gathering that glorified the Chetnik movement and expressed threats and violence.

Incidentally, formations under his command operated on the demarcation lines and were known for attacks on the civilian population, which further increased fear and insecurity among Sarajevans during the years-long siege.

Numerous civilian testimonies and statements from various reports linked his units to the terrorization of the population and other serious violations of the laws of war, although Aleksić was never finally prosecuted before domestic or international courts.
