Andreas Brehme, the man who brought Germany the World Cup title, has died

(Patria) - Germany has lost a world champion, Bild reported. Andreas Brehme died in Munich at the age of 64 - presumed to have died of cardiac arrest.

Brehme was an important member of the generation that brought Germany the World Cup title in 1990 in Italy, and he scored the winning penalty goal in the final in Rome against Maradona's Argentina 1-0.

According to Bild, he was admitted to the emergency room of a hospital near his home, but it was too late, reports Sportklub.

Brehme had a distinguished football career, which he began with HSV Barmbeck, and then played for Saarbrücken, Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich, Zaragoza, and Kaiserslautern again.

It was at Kaiserslautern that he also began his coaching career. He also managed Unterhaching and was an assistant at Stuttgart.

With the German national team, he participated in two World Cups - in Mexico in 1986, he was stopped in the final, while in 1990, with his national team, he became world champion in the manner already mentioned.

Brehme was a defender, but he had a knack for scoring goals. In addition, he was known for his excellent crosses, and he often took corners, free kicks, and penalties.
