(Patria) - The United Kingdom is strengthening Bosnia and Herzegovina's capacities for emergency response and medical support.
As part of its bilateral contribution to NATO's defence capacity building project, the United Kingdom has delivered key equipment and training to the Armed Forces of BiH.
This includes specialized equipment for aerial firefighting – used to lift a water bucket for aerial firefighting – as well as a Tactical Combat Casualty Care course for members of the BiH Armed Forces.
The equipment will significantly enhance the BiH Armed Forces' ability to respond to wildfires, which pose an increasing threat in the region due to climate change.
This capability, known as Military Aid to Civil Authorities, enables the BiH Armed Forces to support civilian emergency services in protecting lives, property, and the environment.
As part of the Tactical Combat Casualty Care course, British military medical experts are training members of the BiH Armed Forces in advanced life-saving techniques adapted for combat and emergency situations.
This training improves operational readiness and is aligned with NATO standards, thereby strengthening interoperability and resilience.
These initiatives reflect the United Kingdom's commitment to supporting defence reforms and capacity building in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
They also contribute to the UK's broader goals of promoting stability, strengthening regional security, and supporting NATO's role as a defence alliance.
While some political actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina have expressed concerns about NATO due to historical associations, these projects demonstrate NATO's modern focus on peace, readiness, and humanitarian support.
The United Kingdom remains a reliable partner in helping BiH build a modern, capable, and effective defence force.
