United Kingdom and BiH Launch New International Human Security Training

(Patria) - The United Kingdom is proud to support the launch of the new International Human Security Course at the Combat Training Centre and Training Ground of the Armed Forces of BiH at Manjača, the British Embassy Sarajevo announced.

This new international course will be held annually in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the enhanced Combat Training Centre funded by the Government of the United Kingdom.

The course was officially opened yesterday by Lieutenant General Gojko Knežević, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of BiH, and Colonel Edward Taylor, Defence Attaché of the United Kingdom.

This centre and course represent a significant step forward in integrating human security principles into military training.

Human security – which includes the protection of civilians, gender perspectives, protection of cultural heritage, and prevention of conflict-related sexual violence – is a key component of modern military operations.

The United Kingdom believes it is essential for every service member to be trained to respect these values, thereby ensuring operational effectiveness and compliance with international standards.

The UK Defence Attaché, Colonel Edward Taylor, praised the leadership of the BiH Ministry of Defence and the BiH Armed Forces for their proactive and collaborative approach.

- Their commitment makes them regional leaders in the field of human security and demonstrates how military professionalism can enhance interoperability, i.e., mutual cooperation in the region and with international partners – said Taylor.

Special thanks were extended to the Peace Support Operations Training Centre (PSOTC) and the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of the BiH Armed Forces for the excellent delivery of the course, in close cooperation with instructors from the United Kingdom Armed Forces.

The decision to develop this centre at Manjača, along with many other programmes held here since 2016, clearly demonstrates the United Kingdom's support for all professional military personnel and units of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, equally and throughout the country.

This reflects the United Kingdom's commitment to supporting BiH as a whole, and strengthening its institutions in a way that benefits all citizens.

This initiative reflects the United Kingdom's long-standing commitment to supporting defence sector reform and institutional resilience in BiH, ensuring that the Armed Forces are prepared to respond to domestic and international challenges.

Like all United Kingdom projects in the defence sector, it aims to protect the well-being, dignity, and security of individuals throughout the country.

The United Kingdom and its allies remain committed to a stable, secure, and prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina, where all communities are respected and empowered, the statement from the British Embassy Sarajevo added.
