UIO: Cigarettes worth 23 thousand BAM seized

(Patria) - Officials of the Indirect Taxation Authority with the assistance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton and on the M-17 highway, in the village of Raštelica, as well as with the assistance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of BPK in the area of the Goražde municipality
have seized a larger quantity of cigarettes. Authorized officials of the UIO BiH, Group for Prevention of Smuggling and Violations RC Sarajevo, with the assistance of officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, PS Hadžići, on the M-17 highway in the village of Raštelica, municipality of Hadžići, during the implementation of measures and activities within their jurisdiction, carried out a control of a commercial vehicle of the VW "Cady" make.

"Upon inspection of the vehicle in question, cardboard packages were observed in the cargo area, which, according to the driver's statement, contained cigarettes without UINO BiH excise stamps. Based on the issued order of the judge for preliminary proceedings of the Court of BiH, a search of the aforementioned vehicle was carried out, and 4,600 packs of cigarettes of various brands, with a market value of approx. 23,000.00 BAM, were found and seized. Based on the collected operational information, authorized officials of the UIO BiH, Group for Prevention of Smuggling and Violations RC Sarajevo and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of BPK, PS Goražde, in the area of the municipality of Goražde, seized 6,501 packs of cigarettes from a private individual, which were not marked with UIO BiH excise stamps, and this individual also did not possess documentation of origin.

The market value of the temporarily seized goods amounts to 32,500.00 BAM. A report will be filed against the individual with the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that they have committed the criminal offense from Article 210 a. Illegal trade in excise products, of the Law on Amendments to the Criminal Code of BiH," it was announced from the UIO.
