Two people arrested: Explosion during gas pipeline construction in Miševići kills young man

(Patria) - By order of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton have deprived two individuals of their liberty due to a grave criminal offense against general safety of people and property in connection with the criminal offense of improper and incorrect execution of construction works.

They are suspected of acting contrary to regulations during the execution of works on the construction of the distribution gas pipeline in the settlement of Miševići, specifically, in front of a family house on Binježevo Street, where a fire and explosion occurred on January 15th of this year, resulting in the death of one person and severe life-threatening injuries to another.

Both suspects, one being the supervisory engineer for gas installations at the company Arting BH, and the other the construction site manager at KJKP Sarajevogas, after criminal processing at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, will be handed over to the jurisdiction of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office for further proceedings.

27-year-old Mirza Delija died in the gas explosion at the Delija family home in Binježevo. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

His father sustained severe life-threatening injuries and was treated at the University Clinical Center Sarajevo (KCUS) with severe burns all over his body. Witnesses claim the explosion threw him out of the house while he was engulfed in flames, but neighbors managed to extinguish the fire, after which he was taken care of by the Emergency Medical Service. The mother sustained minor physical injuries.

The Delija family home was completely destroyed in the explosion, and the force of the blast also shattered windows in surrounding houses.
