(Patria) - The best BH referee Irfan Peljto passed the test. The European football governing body (UEFA) assessed his officiating in the Champions League round of 16 match between Leipzig and Real Madrid as positive, confirmed for the portal "Avaz".
Real celebrated against Leipzig with 1:0, and much attention was drawn by Peljto's decision to disallow a goal by the German team in the 2nd minute of the match.
His assistant Senad Ibrišimbegović raised the flag, and Peljto disallowed the goal by Leipzig's Xaver Schlager. The VAR room agreed with that decision.
In the footage, it can be seen how Benjamin Henrichs pushed Real's goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. Had he indicated that he would not participate in the action, and had Lunin collided with him, the goal would have been awarded.
From UEFA, regarding Peljto's decision, they said that Schlager was in an offside position and that by pushing he prevented Real's goalkeeper from returning to the goal and potentially stopping Benjamin Šeško's goal.
Peljto and his associates Damir Beljo and Senad Ibrišimbegović, as well as the fourth official Miloš Gigović, did an excellent job, and now confirmation has arrived.
Let us recall, Irfan Peljto made history for BH football in the match Leipzig - Real Madrid, becoming the first head referee from BiH to officiate a Champions League knockout stage match.
