Number of deaths in France doubled

(Patria) – The number of fatal outcomes from coronavirus infection among residents of France has doubled in just one week.

French authorities reported 499 new fatal outcomes in just 24 hours, which is twice the 240 recorded in one day last week.

458 new patients were admitted to intensive care units in French hospitals, bringing the number of hospitalized to around 5,000. Among them are 68 people under 30 years of age.

There are 52,000 confirmed infections in France; patients are being transferred from the most affected areas and Paris to hospitals in other parts of the country.

Due to a shortage of medical staff in already overcrowded hospitals, doctors from regions with intensive care experience have been called to join the frontline medical staff.

More than 800,000 cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed worldwide.
