Victims' Association: No one has the right to threaten the Mayor of Sarajevo, especially not a foreigner to whom we extended hospitality

(Patria) - The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide has expressed sincere support for the Mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, for the courage she shows in dealing with the actions and threats she experienced from Amir Gross Kabiri.

"Her dedication to the citizens of Sarajevo and her determination to stand up to harassment are extremely important, and her confidence in the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina is inspiring.

No one has the right to threaten the mayor of our capital city, especially not a foreigner to whom we as a state extended hospitality that he abused.

Threats against the mayor are not only an attack on her personally, but also a serious threat to our society and sovereignty.

Such actions not only undermine the foundations of the democratic values on which our country rests, but also raise serious concerns regarding the safety of all citizens.

Any behavior aimed at intimidating and threatening public officials directly endangers our freedom, stability and democratic order.

We expect and believe that the competent institutions will act urgently and decisively to stop such unacceptable behavior.

The state should be a place where laws are respected and where all citizens can feel safe, regardless of their political beliefs or expression of public views.

Freedom of speech is the highest achievement of democracy, however, freedom of speech also has its limits.

United as citizens of this country, we must condemn all forms of violence and threats and oppose any attempt to undermine the security of anyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina," the Association stated.

This is a time, it adds, when we need to stand together in defense of our democratic values, freedom of expression and the integrity of our state.

"We are confident that the community will stand by you in these challenging moments, recognizing your commitment to the well-being of the city and its citizens.

May your courage be a beacon, and may the support you receive be an incentive to remain unwavering in your mission," the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide conveyed to Mayor Karić.
