Badanj Association from Stolac warns of a landfill threatening the Bregava River

(Patria) - The Badanj Association has warned the public about what they describe as a long-standing ecological problem in Stolac, claiming that the city landfill near the Badanj cave is located only about thirty meters from the riverbed of the Bregava River and that it operates without a valid environmental permit.

According to the Association, waste has been dumped on the steep riverbank for years, and during heavy rains, harmful substances are washed directly into the Bregava. The Association points out that the local population uses this river for daily needs, including agriculture.

The statement indicates that the consequences of pollution are already visible, with the disappearance of river life, while the cultivation of fruits and vegetables, according to local residents, is becoming increasingly difficult or impossible. The potential consequences for the health of people using water from this area are also warned about.

The Badanj Association describes the situation as a serious ecological problem near a river of great natural significance and part of a national monument.

In the accompanying video material, as stated by the Association, a long-time resident of the area speaks, testifying about the changes in the Bregava River and the problems faced by the local community.

The Association claims to have repeatedly informed the competent institutions about the problem, including the City of Stolac, the Government of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, the Government of the Federation of BiH, and the relevant inspection authorities, but, as they state, there have been no concrete reactions so far.

The Badanj Association has called on the public to become aware of the problem and has requested urgent action from the competent institutions to prevent further pollution and potential permanent consequences for the environment and the local population.
